Frequently asked questions

How is CPP calculated for 2026?
CPP is calculated on pensionable earnings between the basic exemption and the year's maximum pensionable earnings. Enhanced tiers (CPP1/CPP2) are applied using current CRA rates for the selected tax year.
What is the EI rate for 2026?
EI is calculated on insurable earnings up to the yearly maximum using the active CRA rate table. Quebec uses reduced EI rates because QPIP covers parental benefits separately.
Why is Ontario different from Quebec for tax?
Quebec has a 16.5% federal abatement on federal income tax because Quebec funds its own social programs. Quebec employees also pay QPIP instead of EI for parental benefits. This calculator handles both correctly.
Is this calculator accurate for payroll remittances?
This calculator provides a close estimate using the CRA T4032 formula. It uses Code 1 (basic personal amount only) for both federal and provincial claims. For employees with additional credits, deductions, or commission income, results may differ slightly. Always use certified payroll software for remittances.
